Why Not.....It's Wednesday #2

I've had this thought of replacing a large beveled mirror in my living room.  I've always been drawn to the look of a large grouping of pictures.  I love the impact it gives a room.    So my plan is not to break the bank and to get creative.   Do you have any ideas?

Treasure Hunting

We're back from Brimfield!!  What an awesome weekend we had treasure hunting.   You never know what you will see when you go so it's always an adventure.

Another thing that makes it so enjoyable is returning to our home away from home.  We discovered the best B&B in the area several years ago.  It's name is Heritage Hill Bed and Breakfast.  The hosts, Ron and Ginger Seaburg are an amazing couple and their hospitality and breakfast is by far the best.  Here is their website www.heritagehillbandb.com.  If you're ever in Holland/Sturbridge,  Massachusetts please make an effort to stay there.

So let me tell you what I found;  a tilt top table, toile tray, grain sack, metal tray (thought it might have been copper but it's looking more like brass),  a wood sign and what looks like the largest ever pepper mill (but what actually is a baluster).   Here are the before pictures.   I'll show you soon the the transformations.

Up or Down

Well, I finished working on my tilt top table that I found a few weeks ago at Brimfield, MA.  Read here for more details.  I love the functionality of this table and it's space requirement is virtually null.   The price too didn't hurt. I brought it home for $20.00.  My changes where easy.

Before

After a good cleaning I painted it with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old Ochre.

First Step

I wanted to add something on the top so I chose this simple stencil.  I painted it in ASCP called Versailles.

I applied AS Clear Wax and then followed that with a little Dark Wax (believe me a little goes a     l....o....n....g   way)   Here is the finished table.

Why Not..... It's Wednesday

How many of you write a "To Do List"?   I find that it helps me to stay organized and checking a task off at the end of the day is a great feeling :)  I'll include ideas that inspired me either through magazines or on the Internet.   I thought it would be fun to start a weekly post called "Why Not.... It's Wednesday" which will feature a sampling of creative DIY projects and inspirational ideas.   I hope that it gives you the confidence to say "I can do that too!"

Just in time for Fall I've selected some awesome pumpkin projects.  I'm wondering which one will you be doing?

Fall Is In The Air

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.   The weather here was perfect with a brilliant blue sky and warm sunshine.   The kind of days you just don't want to end.  I brought down some fall decorations from the attic and added some autumn touches throughout the house.  Here's just a few...

Redo

Last week I mentioned that I had a bedroom in need of an update.  You can read that post here.  So here are the changes that were made.

Below are some of the things I used along the way and what I couldn't have done without.

Wall Color - Behr Ultra Paint & Primer in One
Light Incense

Accent Wall - Behr Ultra Paint & Primer in One
Aspen Aura

Dressers & Bed - Benjamin Moore Impervo
Deserted Island
Antiqued with Rust-oleum Decorative Glaze - Java Brown

I chose burlap for the curtains.   The must have to make these a no sew project is Stitch Witchery Tape.  I pressed in a 5/8" hem on all four sides and then folded it over again and ironed it closed with the tape.  SUPER EASY and the tape adheres nicely to the burlap.

The dust ruffle is made of denim.   I made this a no sew project too.   I kept the denim folded in half with enough length to go down the side of the mattress.  The folded end is the hem.  I gave it a kick pleat in the center then tucked the material between the mattress and the box spring and attached it using Upholstery Pins.  They have a coiled end which secures the material and prevents it from slipping.  My second must have!

A few hand selected accessories, the VW van added some whimsy, and some sewn throw pillows and the room came together.    We can't even recall the way it was.  Good thing for pictures- sigh.

Nail Polish/Perfume Organizer

PS   The best corner of the room contains jewelry, nail polish and perfume :)  A spice rack keeps all the polish organized and a memo board holds necklaces.

Once Upon a Closet .....

Beverage Area

Beverage Area
Beverage Area

I enjoy having a kitchen that serves as a gathering space.  But sometimes I feel the other rooms get forgotten.  So I set up an area for beverages which  allows for a better traffic flow at parties.  The area I used was in the family room which is just outside the entry to the kitchen.  It originally was a large two door closet.

I took the doors off and purchased two stock floor cabinets and a mini fridge.   I measured the top, cut a piece of plywood, applied adhesive tile squares, some trim and painted it out in black.   For entertaining I use this area for glasses, ice bucket and drinks and it welcomes guests into the family room.  Success!

Frame It

Map
Lately, I've been noticing a lot of framed maps.  I came across this one for less than $10.00.   I like the muted colors and vintage feel.   So I found two unused frames that I had tucked away and cut the map to fit.  A very easy project that instantly adds an old world feel to any room.

Bye Bye Pink

This summer marked the end of the pink and brown bedroom.
But before any paint or material could be bought an inspiration was needed.  A day of shopping resulted in the quilt below.   Definitely a departure from the past.

The room is a work in progress and should be finished soon.
Back to school on a happy note!

I'll be posting the new look soon.  Come back for the big reveal. :)
