Friday's Finds

Recently, on a Friday morning I stopped at a few garage sales.  I find that Friday's are a great time to go.  It allows me to leave the weekend free for family events and whatever else may pop up.  Plus, I feel like I get the first look:)   Below are some of the items that caught my eye - I'm always amazed at what a little paint will do.  Still have some more projects to add to my list - I'm sure you know how that goes.   Hope you're all having a great week!

I'm Ready

Last week I had a light bulb moment.  You can read about it here.  I'd like to show you the finished project involving a mannequin and a grain sack.   Need I say she is looking good!

It's all about having the right undergarment.  In order to make her look smooth and shapely, I wrapped her in batting and used some string to hold it in place.  One package the size used for a baby quilt was plenty.

Next step was to cut the grain sack in half.   After a deep breath,  I had two pieces for the front and back.

I pinned the pieces right sides together all along one side, the top, and half way down the other side.  So that I could get it off her to sew.  So far so good.

Next,  I sewed the front and back together following the markings of the pins and turned it right side out and put it back on.  I hand sewed the side opening and hem.   Her legs (base) weren't looking so good so I applied ASCP in Graphite for a quick touch up.

Here she is, all dressed up.   Now where should she go?

Why Not......It's Wednesday #4

Where did this come from, what was it used for, how can I re-purpose it? These are some of the thoughts I have when I see a salvaged corbel, door, or baluster.  I love to add something old (even better if the paint is worn and chipped) to a room.  I think it adds history and balances out what's new in the space.  So the next time you see a discarded piece why not bring it home and have fun finding a place for it.

Get Dressed!

I brought home from the Brimfield Antique Show a grain sack.  I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do with it; a table runner, pillows, seat cover?? So I put it away hoping that an idea would come to me.  Well it happened! Can you tell from the pictures below what I plan on doing?   I'll show you the finished project soon.   Have a great weekend.

Why Not.......It's Wednesday #3

Each day I see more homes decorated for Halloween.  It's one of my favorite times of the year.  I read that people spend more money decorating for Halloween then any other holiday besides Christmas.  It makes me want to have an awesome Halloween party.  The kind where your home looks haunted and scary appetizers and festive drinks are served.   Here are some snapshots of rooms that I would use as inspiration.   Has anyone thrown a Halloween party - don't be afraid to tell.

Do Not Enter

Our beloved four legged family member only has first floor access.   So what do I use to stop her from going up the stairs?   The baby gate was useful for a time but gone are those days.   And let's be honest they're not the most attractive accessory to show off  in your home.  So pictured below is what I put together to solve the issue.   An easy project using just shutters, mending braces, paint and two drawer pulls.

Three shutter mended together (back view)

Added two drawer pulls

Finished with ASCP clear wax and sanded

Take Note

As I was walking through Home Depot the other day I spotted this dry erase adhesive message board. I thought it would make a great desk blotter.   How easy just peel and stick!!  A great way to keep track of important due dates and projects for school.

Have a great Monday!!
